Marcar el Territorio II

A lo que no se comprende (lo otro), se le tiene miedo. Inscrita en la naturaleza humana está la aparente necesidad y acto primitivo de dejar marcas (literales) en el mundo. Marcar algo, alguien o algún sitio como mío, nuestro, otros. Clasificar, aislar, segregar, cegar, enmudecer, reprimir, transformar y dividir. Marcar el territorio.
Dividimos a través de fronteras físicas e imaginarias, frecuentemente arbitrarias, dibujando sobre ríos, montañas y bosques.
Marcamos también al explorar, y en el rastro que dejamos detrás re-territorializamos y comprendemos el campo abierto que sin nuestra presencia, acción, o andar, se nos desdibuja en un vacío sin sentido. Suponemos que sin nuestra presencia, el (nuestro) mundo no existe. No importa.
De este lado, nosotros, la ‘civilización’. Allá, los otros, lo salvaje, el vacío.
Marking the Territory II

That which we don't understand, we fear. Carved in human nature are an apparent need and the primitive act of leaving (literal) marks in the world. Marking something, someone or somewhere as mine, ours, others'. Classify, isolate, segregate, blind, mute, suppress, transform and divide. Marking the territory.
We divide through both physical and imaginary borders, some frequently arbitrary, drawing over rivers, mountains and forests.
We mark also through the act of exploring, and in the trail we leave behind we re-territorialize and understand the open space that without our presence, action, walking or wandering, blurs and turns into a meaningless void. We suppose, without our presence, the (our) world is not. It doesn't really matter.
On this side, us, "civilization". There, the others, the savage world, the void.
